A review of Canopy & Stars for nature-loving travellers
If you’re the type of traveller who loves hidden gems and nature-focused getaways, you might also be the camping or glamping type. I first used Canopy & Stars a few years ago when looking for somewhere to stay near Hebden Bridge in Yorkshire. Known for its curated selection of treehouses, yurts, cabins and other quirky, eco-friendly stays, Canopy & Stars listed a perfect little cabin at Ponden Mill, known as ‘Falling Water’ (because of the little waterfall right next to it!).
I had the most amazing weekend stay at Ponden Mill, and this was my first time staying in this kind of accommodation - usually I’d have booked an apartment or hotel room instead. But something about being surrounded by trees and falling asleep and waking up to the sound of falling water only metres away really made my walking trip over the weekend that extra bit special and unique.
So, why would I recommend nature-lovers and eco-conscious travellers take a look at Canopy & Stars when booking their next trip?
Overview and key features
Curated selection: Canopy & Stars focuses on handpicked properties, aiming to showcase only high-quality and sustainable accommodation. You’ll find a mixture of yurts, treehouses, glamping tents, shepherd huts and cabins on their site, often located in beautiful, scenic and secluded areas.
Eco-friendly focus: Many listings emphasise sustainability and highlight properties that are off-grid, powered by solar, or built with eco-conscious materials.
Detailed listings: Each listing gives you lots of photos and full, detailed descriptions of the property, outlining details like the property’s surroundings, unique features and local activities. There are also lots of reviews from previous guests which will give you a feel for the properties.
Pros
Unique accommodations: Canopy & Stars offers a wide variety of memorable stays that cater to travellers looking for that extra special experience beyond standard hotels or even traditional rentals. Properties often blend nature with comfort, making them perfect for short getaways, like my hiking trip!
Inspiration-driven browsing: You’ll notice that the site groups properties based on themes, e.g. romantic retreats or hot tub escapes.
Quality control: Properties are curated, meaning that standards are generally high.
Support for sustainable tourism: The platform supports small, local businesses and eco-friendly initiatives which may be an important factor for you when looking for somewhere to stay on your trip. Many properties include information on their sustainability practices too.
Potential drawbacks
Limited geographic coverage: Canopy & Stars primarily covers the UK and parts of Europe, so you might need to look elsewhere if you want to visit somewhere outside of these regions.
Premium pricing: The unique nature of the listings often comes with a premium price tag, so it might not be the best choice for budget travellers.
Availability: Some of the most popular or unique properties can book up well in advance, especially for weekend or holiday stays, so it’s not really the type of place to book last minute reservations.
Overall, I’d recommend Canopy & Stars if you’re looking for an extraordinary stay that’s deeply connected with nature! You’ll find lots of charming properties on there, whether you’re looking for a tree cabin or a shepherd’s hut!
